What is email coaching, and is it for you?

Hey there, superstar!!

Just thought I wanted to share something cool with you. Email coaching. Maybe you've heard of it. Maybe you haven't.

If you have...cool!

If you haven't...hopefully, this post can fill you in!

WHAT IS EMAIL COACHING

Email coaching is an out-of-the-box way to deliver 1:1 coaching strictly through…you guessed it…email! There’s no face-to-face time between you and the coach; your entire conversation is held within a thread of email replies.

While email coaching isn’t new, I feel it’s not a very common way I’ve found coaching offered.

HOW DOES EMAIL COACHING WORK?

Email coaching works almost the same way as interacting with a coach, at various times of the day rather than a 60-minute window.

There’s an initial review done via questionnaire, so the coach knows what you need coaching on. From there, you and your coach will continue your coaching in a chain of email replies throughout the coaching period.

A wonderful thing about email coaching is that instead of having to schedule appointments, you can send an email to your coach when it’s convenient for you, which is very helpful if your personal life is already pretty hectic.

WHAT TYPE OF PEOPLE NEED COACHING

Email coaching is perfect for you if:

  • You have a busy schedule

  • You have a tight budget

  • You’re introverted and hate being on camera

  • You hate being put on the spot when asked a question

  • You’d rather have time to reflect on what you want to say before answering

  • You’re hearing impaired

PROS AND CONS OF EMAIL COACHING

PROS

  • Can be done anytime, anywhere

  • Cashflow-friendlier option compared to traditional coaching

  • You have a written record of your progress over your coaching period

  • Effective if you have a thorny issue that’s difficult to explain verbally

CONS

  • Depending on your goal, 30 days may not be long enough

  • It may be harder to connect with someone you’ve never seen, so the level of trust may not feel as deep as it would face-to-face

  • When you can’t use or hear voice inflections, there’s a possibility for something to be misinterpreted.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, I think email coaching is a nifty alternative to traditional face-to-face coaching.
